KYAMBURA GORGE
Kyambura gorge which is watered by the Kyambura stream happens to be the longest chasm in the whole of East Africa. This stream also supplies the forest with water for the wildlife. The gorge which is also known as the Kyambura game reserve also contributes a major role in the energizing of Queen Elizabeth. In addition to that, it provides the excellent spot for chimpanzee trekking and excellent view of primates as they move through the forest.
AREA
The gorge is located in the north-east of Queen Elizabeth National Game Park. It is estimated to be 30km from the headquarters of the national park.

The Gorge
This gorge is named after the River Kyambura and it navigates through the thick “underground forest which is 100 meters below the Kichwamba escarpment. It is well known for giving home to chimpanzees: some of which are habituated and one can follow through their habitant with the help of a trained Uganda Wildlife Authority Guide.
Wildlife
The Kyambura gorge abodes a number of wildlife from the Queen Elizabeth National Park and is a major source of water for the wildlife from the national park. It is important to note that the area is a home for many primates in its crevasse. Some of the animal species to look out for include the red-tailed monkey, high contrast Colobus, vervet monkeys and baboons.
Things to Do
Chimpanzee Tracking
The gorge is well known for the high number of primates that reside there and being a hotspot for habituated chimpanzees.
The Kyambura Gorge experience is greater than just finding chimpanzees in their common habitat: it provides the tourist with an opportunity to witness the climatic “underground” rain timberland, which includes vegetation, winged animals thereby distinguishing conduct, chimp and monkey nature. However, sighting a chimp is not guaranteed.
Only chimps under habituation can provide the Chimp Habituation Experience(CHEX). If one arrives early they are able to catch a glimpse of chimps leaving their overnight homes at around 6:30. The chimps just go about their normal lives resting, breastfeeding, playing around until 7:00pm when they move to another home.
Nature Walks
As you take a walk through the gorge, you may be fortunate to a wide range of primates and bird species within the gorge or the forest. The pathways lead to beautiful picnic and cookout spots. The beautiful forest and the unique wildlife provide photo worthy moments and spots.
Birding
Apart from the whole trekking and primate experience the Kyambura gorge also presents a wide range of bird species which make it a perfect area for birding.
Accommodation
Uganda is a peaceful state therefore one should never be worried about where to stay. Queen Elizabeth national park has a variety of accommodation facilities which include; Kyambura Gorge Lodge, Engazi hold up, Katara Lodge, Emin Pasha Lodge.
