Getting to Kidepo Valley national park
Getting to Kidepo Valley national park ,one can opt to either travel by air or road transport to Kidepo Valley National Park, situated far end in the North Eastern Part of Uganda, a perfect country side destination. Road travel has several options, all of which take a minimum of ten hours’ drive from Kampala, the capital city of Uganda. It is advised for one to have an overnights stay at say Soroti town or Mbale town for decent accommodation as it is not really available at the park and because the journey can mean to be very exhausting since some roads are bumpy and dusty. The road travel route to the park are listed below;
Kampala- Karuma-Gulu-Kitgum-Kidepo (571km, 10 hours’ drive)
This is the shortest and most popular route for travelers visiting the park. Most part of the road is smooth tarmac and you may branch off at the Ziwa sanctuary and see the Rhinoceros and proceed to Gulu for a rest. From Gulu to the park is a two hours’ drive.
Kampala- Mbale- Sironko- Moroto- Kotido- Kaabong- Kidepo (740km, 12hours’ drive)
This is the second most popular route used by travelers to the park with several attractions along the route to break the road travel like the Mabira forest, the Nile at Jinja, Lake Victoria, the hike to Sipi falls from Sironko, and various coffee plantations, completing a beautiful countryside view. You may also explore the Matheniko and Bokora wildlife reserves, into the wilderness and great landscapes. You could break the travel at Moroto town and proceed to the park in the morning, which is roughly two hours.
Kampala- Mbale- Soroti- Moroto- Kotido- Kaabong- Kidepo (792km, 13hours’ drive)
Visitors that take this route explore the Source of the Nile, Nyero rock of Kumi town and the authentic African lifestyle. Kumi and Soroti are strategic towns to spend the night at.
Air Travel flights to access the park can originate from Entebbe International Airport or Kajjansi Airstrip along Entebbe road. The scheduled flights to Kidepo Valley National Park by Aerolink Uganda Limited are on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays and take 2hours and 15minutes.
