WHY VISIT KIDEPO VALLEY NATIONAL PARK.

Visit Kidepo valley national park

Visit Kidepo valley national park, Kidepo Valley National Park is a remote park found in North Eastern Uganda. It is the least famous and least visited park of all parks in Uganda. Part of the reasons as to why the park is not visited as much as it should be is because of the long distance that it would take one to reach the park, which takes one a minimum of ten hours’ drive from Kampala, the capital city of Uganda.

Kidepo Valley National Park is surrounded by the Karamojong, a traditional group of people with an interesting culture. The park also borders Kenya and South Sudan. A visit to the park will give you an insight of what Africa was, 100 years ago, as it is a true wilderness. Below are some of the few reasons that should get you choosing Kidepo Valley National Park as your destination of choice.

The Nature- the park lies between verdant valleys giving you expansive landscape views, fresh air breaths, all captivating to the eyes and mind.

The wildlife- Kidepo harbors some of the most rare wildlife species that cannot be found in any other park in Uganda, for example, the cheetahs and wild dogs. There is truly a concentration of over 77 mammal species here that will capture your heart.

Bird watching- if you are a lover of birds or a birder, Kidepo is a perfect place to view some of the rare birds like ostriches and the Karamoja apalis, exclusive to this park. The park is home to migratory birds as well as other common birds like the secretary birds, vultures and more.

The icing on the cake for the visit to Kidepo is the people surrounding the park, the Karamojong. They are nomadic pastoralists, who are very true to their culture and reluctant to take on the modern ways.  Their lifestyle is rich, unique and truly intriguing to the mind so take a chance and visit the African wilderness.

Best time to visit-Kidepo Valley National Park

We have two dry seasons in Uganda and these are undoubtedly the best times to visit Kidepo Valley National Park. The dry seasons are June to August and December to March. The roads to the park and within the park are impassable during the rainy season. During the wet season as well, the animals move to the higher grounds to run away from the flooding valleys which makes finding these animals a bit hard.
