Ishasha Sector
This sector is the most visited in Queen Elizabeth National park. It is located in the southern part of the park. The landscapes in the sector are marvelous for they aid the best views of the wildlife thereby making Ishasha the most popular part of Queen Elizabeth. It is characterized of savanna grasslands with fig and acacia trees and riverine forests. Ishasha has various attractions which include:
Tree climbing lions
Ishasha is the only location in Uganda gifted with these one of a kind lions. In East Africa Lake Manyara in Tanzania is the only other place with these unique lions but the best view is in Ishasha. These lions normally rest on top of the trees looking down on their prey grazing. They are quite different from other lions as the males have black manes. The best time to catch a glimpse at these during a game drive is the afternoon.
Other animals
Ishasha is a well-endowed location with numerous animals except the tree climbing lions which include; elephants, buffaloes, warthogs, hippos near River Ishasha, waterbucks, Uganda kobs and many others.
Birds
For the bird lovers, Ishasha is the place you must have on your go-to list. The best spots for bird watching are Lake Edward and River Ishasha It has a variety of bird species to add to your check list for example; broad-billed roller, martial eagle, grey wood pecker, black coucal, white-headed vulture, striped kingfisher, African green pigeon, Ross’s turaco and many others.
When to visit
Any time of the year is good for a visit but the perfect time is the dry season. In the dry season, the vegetation is short therefore it is easy to see the wildlife grazing in the grasslands. However the activities are available throughout the year despite the seasons.

There are variety of accommodation facilities ranging from luxurious to midrange to budget. They all offer quality services to suit each and every person both local and international guests. These include Ishasha jungle lodge, Ishasha wilderness camp, Topi lodge and others.
Getting Ishasha
By road: From Kampala city, travel via Mubende to Fortportal then to Queen Elizabeth national park and then you can connect to Ishasha sector. Using other routes like Mweya peninsular, it takes 2 hours to arrive.
Air transport: Using air transport the set off spot is either Entebbe airport or Kajansi Airfield then arrive to either Mweya Airstrip or Kihihi airstrip and then connect to Ishasha by road.
Visiting Ishasha is something that should be on everyone’s bucket list as the experience is one that will remain tattooed to your memory for life.
