CAPE BUFFALOES IN KIDEPO
Kidepo Valley National Park is a wilderness park located in North Eastern Uganda. This is an area that experiences semi-arid climate, hence semi-arid vegetation in the park and rugged hills. The Park borders Kenya and Sudan and is surrounded by the Karamojong group of people. The Park is infested with buffaloes, making it the best place for a tourist to go see buffaloes. Buffaloes love to live in Savannah grasslands. A group of buffaloes is a herd and their young ones are called “calves”. The latter have reddish hair that turns black as they grow.
The male buffaloes are often bigger than the females, weighing 500-900kilograms and they are one of the BIG FIVE animals. The gestation period is about 11months and the calves are taken care of and protected by their mothers, until later when they are older and they join the herds. Buffaloes love to live in grasslands but will be seen along the swamps when it is very hot. They will wade in the waters as a way of cooling off.
Besides Buffaloes, Kidepo Valley National Park also has a concentration of other mammals that can be spotted during hikes, game drives and or nature walks like lions, gazelles, cheetahs, leopards and many more. In fact, Kidepo harbors four of the big five animals, the only missing one being the rhino, which can be seen at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary. There are also a variety of unique bird species in the park, and a generally satisfying view that will leave your memory stained naturally.
