Kidepo Valley National Park is located in a semi-arid region of North Eastern Uganda, surrounded by the Karamojong community. The Park is open all year through and it is welcoming to all visitors at any time of the year. It is then entirely up to the interests of the visitor, so as to determine when best to visit the park, interests can be derived from the activities one wishes to carry out and the game one is most interested in viewing. Certain activities can be halted due to the climatic conditions that the park tends to experience, given its location.

The months of December to February and June to late August are the driest periods. During this time, the sky is clear, the temperatures are between 27.5 to 34degrees Celsius and on some occasions, the temperatures may rise to 40degrees Celsius. There is high evaporation rate, streams dry up, vegetation withers and dries, the environment is dusty and windy as wildlife congregates in the valleys with oases. This is good for the visitors interested in game viewing as it becomes easy to spot them.

The wildlife treks in search of water and grass, so, the guides here pay keen attention to ensure your safety. Wildlife will also retreat early from the scorching sun. It is best to visit wildlife in this period and early mornings since they leave to their safe zones early to escape the burning sun. The wildlife is also active at night when it is cooler and you are in luck too if you want a night drive as the park offers them with an armed ranger and headlights.

The Months of March to May and September to November are full of heavy rains that cause flooding of routes to the park. The sky is dark, clouds are seen and temperatures are between 27-17degrees Celsius. The seasonal streams resurrect, the grasses grow taller, and the wilderness is carpet of green grassland all beautiful for a photographer that loves capturing breathtaking nature views.

The air is fresh, the smell of the earth and wilderness brings out the real picture of African Wilderness Safari. Migratory birds return and flock in eye catching large flocks. Travelling may be tricky and you will need 4WD safari vehicles to view the various game disported in large areas.
