Attractions in Queen Elizabeth National Park

Queen Elizabeth National Pak would probably not be as famous and prominent as it is if it was not for the tourist attractions in and around it. In the west of Uganda, particularly in Kasese district is where you will find the Queen Elizabeth national park endowed with different and numerous animal species and other beautiful natural sceneries. This is the reason why numerous schools of thought agreed and referred to it as the “medley of nature”. It is one of the biggest national parks and come second to Murchison falls national park. The park is one that is quite hard to miss due to its attractions which include the following:
EQUATOR
Queen Elizabeth National park happens to be one of the places that are fortunate to be crossed by the equator. The equator is represented by a circular shaped feature. This provides a photo booth for many visitors who stop by to enjoy a photogenic moment. The locals also enjoy spending time around the area especially children with welcoming warm smiles.
THE QUEEN’S PAVILLION
The national park happens to be named after the Queen of England. When the queen was coming to visit the park a pavilion was built in the park in her honor. This pavilion also provides a good photographic experience. In addition to that the pavilion provides such an unforgettable view of the national park.
KATWE SALT WORKS
Lake Katwe is one of the crater physical features around Queen Elizabeth National Park. It is a salty lake with inlets but no outlets. The dry season makes the water concentrated thereby forming salty pans at the bottom of the lake and salt crystals on top. One of the major sites to pay attention to here is the ancient Germany salt factory. At the lake, the natives narrate the mining process to the tourists.
KYAMBURA ESCARPMENT
The Kyambura region is endowed with the unique feature which is the Kyambura gorge. This is a rainforest with savanna plain grasslands and gets its strip shape from the River Kyambura. The escarpment provides a spectacular view of the park and savanna plains with dots of woodlands.

THE CRATER LAKES
The Queen Elizabeth National park being located in the western rift valley, it is by nature bound to have volcanic crater features like lakes. As you travel around the park you will see a good number of crater lakes in the area like Katwe Crater Lake, Bunyaruguru Crater fields, Ndali-Kasenda Crater Fields.
WILDLIFE
Queen Elizabeth National Park was selected to conserve and protect wildlife therefore wildlife is one of the major attractions in the park. The park is endowed with 95 mammal species, 600 bird species, reptiles, bats and various insect species too. The park is blessed to have the highest number of hippopotami in East Africa. There are also buffaloes, elephants. So where else could someone enjoy wildlife other than Queen Elizabeth National park?
TREE CLIMBING LIONS/ CACTUS CLIMBING LIONS
The mere thought of a tree climbing lion is really thrilling and who would want to miss out on seeing a tree climbing lion. They are a unique kind of lions that is exclusive to East Africa found in Queen Elizabeth National park and Lake Manyara in Tanzania. The best sight of these is in Queen Elizabeth. Watching these lions is quite a satisfactory experience, they climb up the trees and gaze upon their prey real exhibiting that they are the king of the jungle. These tree climbing lions attract a lot of tourists to Queen Elizabeth.
KAZINGA CHANNEL
This is another marvelous spot in the queen Elizabeth area. It hosts a number of animal species in the dry season. The Kazinga channel houses a number of rare bird species. It is also where the famous launch cruise takes place. During the cruise, the tourists can see various animals like lions with their curbs trying to catch some prey, hippopotamuses enjoying the water and herds of elephants bathing at the shores. The Kazinga channel is an important spot for birders in Africa.
LANDSCAPE
The landscape of Queen Elizabeth national park is a jaw dropping one. The park is located at the back of Mt. Rwenzori and this gives a clear and good view of the mountain as is ascends into the clouds. The hills in the area also provide such beautiful scenery, one that anybody who loves nature would want to wake up to every morning.

OMWANI COFFEE PLANTATION
This is something special for feminists and coffee lovers. The Omwani women’s association is an initiative by the women in the area to produce quality organic coffee as they earn a living. They produce both for local and international consumption. The visit to the plantation gives one an opportunity to see the production of coffee without any artificial means.
ACCOMODATION
There are quite a number of accommodation facilities ranging from budget friendly to luxurious. Similar to other protected facilities, the accommodation infrastructures in the park are built to suit the natural surroundings. Some of these facilities exhibit and portray the richness of the African culture. The style and design used is a true representation of the African way of leaving; some cottages are in form of grass thatched huts and others employ beddings with African print bring out the beauty of the African tradition.
