Accomodations in Kidepo
Kidepo Valley National Park is a distant Park in Northern Uganda with rare wildlife in abundance. The park also offers safari activities such as game drives, hiking, bird watching, nature walks, cultural tours and more. The Park is isolated with a few numbers of luxury, mid-range and budget accommodation facilities namely;
Apoka Safari lodge
With ten luxury rooms, four of which are twin rooms able to accommodate four to six people, and six double rooms, all designated with canvas walls and offer a good view of the savannah vegetation, landscape, and wildlife. The rooms are all of quality with mosquito nets, extra-large towels, a sitting room, and private verandahs on each room to make your stay comfortable. Apoka is a luxury lodge with swimming pool curved out of a big rock overlooking the savannah, a restaurant, bar, laundry, spa and a fire place.
Adere Safari lodge
It is a new safari lodge located at the edge of the park, a few meters from the main gate. The lodge has 17 cottages with single and double rooms designed with natural wood. It also has a well-stocked bar and restaurant that serves three course meal, a football pitch and a swimming pool.
Apoka rest camp
It is a budget lodge in the park run and managed by the Uganda Wildlife Authority, with sixteen self-contained cabins and a hostel with 14 basic Bandas. Visitors who want to camp can also do so here.
Kidepo Savannah lodge
This is located at the edge of the park on Kawalokol hill overlooking Narus Valley, with breathtaking views of the Narus Valley which is 500 meters away, Mountain Morungole, the elephants, the oribi birds and more. It has 12 safari tents on raised decks, each with a private verandah. Three of the tents are self-contained whereas the nine are for the budget travelers, and the latter include a shared bathroom and flushing toilets. Kidepo Savannah Lodge has a bar and restaurant serving two course meals during dinner and a spacious lounge for relaxation.
Nga’moru Wilderness Camp
This is a mid-range lodge located on the border of the park and overlooks the Narus Valley. It has three Cabana rooms that accommodate one to four single beds with facilities like en-suite bathrooms which offer hot and cold running water. It also has three safari tents that accommodate one to two beds. There is a well-stocked bar and restaurant where breakfast, lunch and dinner is served.
How to get to Kidepo Valley National Park.
Kampala- Karuma-Gulu-Kitgum-Kidepo (571km, 10 hours’ drive)
This is the shortest and most popular route for travelers visiting the park. Most part of the road is smooth tarmac and you may branch off at the Ziwa sanctuary and see the Rhinoceros and proceed to Gulu for a rest. From Gulu to the park is a two hours’ drive.
Kampala- Mbale- Sironko- Moroto- Kotido- Kaabong- Kidepo (740km, 12hours’ drive)
This is the second most popular route used by travelers to the park with several attractions along the route to break the road travel like the Mabira forest, the Nile at Jinja, Lake Victoria, the hike to Sipi falls from Sironko, and various coffee plantations, completing a beautiful countryside view. You may also explore the Matheniko and Bokora wildlife reserves, into the wilderness and great landscapes. You could break the travel at Moroto town and proceed to the park in the morning, which is roughly two hours.
Kampala- Mbale- Soroti- Moroto- Kotido- Kaabong- Kidepo (792km, 13hours’ drive)
Visitors that take this route explore the Source of the Nile, Nyero rock paintings of Kumi town and the authentic African lifestyle. Kumi and Soroti are strategic towns to spend the night at.
Air Travel flights to access the park can originate from Entebbe International Airport or Kajjansi Airstrip along Entebbe Road. The scheduled flights to Kidepo Valley National Park by Aerolink Uganda Limited are on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays and take 2hours and 15minutes.
